The name ‘Beehive’ was given to the building because of it’s obvious shape. It was a concept designed by English architect, Sir Basil Spence after a visit to New Zealand in 1964. It was constructed in stages over 10yrs starting in 1969. It is the executive wing of the parliament buildings and houses the Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers and is where the Cabinet meets. There are guided tours each day to enable you to see this wonderful complex.
